Beirut named World Book Capital 2009 in boost for Arab publishing

In an official ceremony organized by UNESCO in Paris, the Lebanese Minister of Culture announced that Beirut was chosen to be the World Book Capital for 2009.
The UN agency for culture said Beirut was chosen for its work promoting diversity and tolerance.
The move marks another stepping stone for literature in the Arab world, with more quality novels being published than ever before according to writers.
