The Egyptian Minister of Health has brought a doctor before the public prosecutor for carrying out a sex change operation on a young man named Islam, who has post-operation changed their name to Nur. The doctor is being charged with “violating religious and medical custom by carrying such an operation.”
This operation, the details of which the Ministry of Health has been trying to uncover since last week, has reignited the debate on the Egyptian street over transsexuals, who are in general rejected by society.
Islam’s operation comes about twenty years after the most famous sex change operation in Egypt of a young man named Sayyid who, post-operation, donned the name Sally and became a dancer. Sally commented on Islam’s case that, “I think he rushed things. He should have waited longer to more fully make sure of his leanings.”

وتأتى عملية إسلام بعد حوالى 20 عاماً من أشهر عملية تحويل جنس فى مصر لشاب يدعي سيد، أجرى عملية تحويل وأطلق على نفسه "سالي" وعمل بعدها راقصة. وقد علقت سالي على قضية إسلام بـ"اعتقد إنه تعجل إجراء العملية، كان يجب عليه الإنتظار للتأكد بشكل كامل من ميوله".

Even the more "civilised" Western societies are lacking in scientific research about basic female anatomy, does anyone really think that these would be documented or talked about? A man wanting to become a woman is a traitor for wanting to give up his superior status of male - so that is a huge deal, but a woman wanting to become a man is actually something cute or something of the like, for she would be trying to aggrandise her status. :p

For example, in Sunni Islam, transsexuality is considered wrong, but in Shiite Islam, it is not prohibited. In Iran, the more feminine man in a homosexual relationship is made - by the government - to change his biological sex to female. In lesbian relationships, the more masculine partner is also made to become male. It is covered by the government. This might be what Ahmadinejad meant when he decided to publicly state that there are no homosexuals in Iran. Sidenote: This is extremely wrong, and a homosexual, no matter how feminine, should in no way be confused with a transsexual. It's a completely different "issue."

Since it's so anti religion, it's just immediately frowned upon and the individuals are deemed possessed or something equally absurd, and instead of being sent to psychiatrists to get their cases looked into to see whether they should transition or whether they are just gay or actually imbalanced, they're just thrown in prisons, abused, and/or ostracised.
